Student reviews

“I have been learning with Ágnes for just over a year. I find her to be a friendly tutor with a bubbly personality. What I especially love about her is that she only focuses on my learning needs and quickly adapts to my learning styles. Ágnes is patient. She listens to my learning problems and gives me solutions. She has a very positive attitude and always encourages me to focus on my strengths. Her feedback and advice have helped me a lot.”
— Ed (United Kingdom) – 2023

“I found Ágnes Borbély during a search for online Hungarian tuition via Skype. And I’m very glad I did!”

“Firstly, her manner is incredibly warm, inviting and most convivial. Prior to each lesson, she’d assemble easy-to-follow handouts which she’d email me prior to the lesson that week for me to study.”

“Hungarian, I’ve discovered, is not an easy language to learn, and there’s no getting around this, sadly! But Ágnes’ friendly and encouraging approach, plus her willingness to explain some very difficult concepts, made me keen to continue with the lessons, despite the difficulty.”

“And coupled with the fact that language tuition can be very expensive, but her lessons are reasonably enough priced such that I periodically would do a double lesson, I cannot recommend her highly enough.”
— I. Lewis-Coker (United Kingdom) – 2016

“My aim, when I started Hungarian lessons with Agnes, was to improve my confidence in speaking Hungarian. Agnes has provided interesting and relevant material, which has given me opportunity to speak, to revise points of grammar and to broaden my vocabulary.”

“She does her very best to tailor the lessons to meet my needs, and is unfailingly patient and encouraging as well as flexible when I have to alter the times of my lessons because of other commitments.”

“I recommend her without hesitation, whatever your level of Hungarian.”
— Andrew (United Kingdom) – 2015

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to get started?

If you have internet access and a quiet space for 45 minutes you are good to go.

What if I don’t own a computer?

A smartphone is enough to get started. You can download MS Teams or Google Chat in most countries. I can share documents through these so you can see the materials we might use in the lesson. If you have any technical issues, we can always find alternative apps that work better in your country.

What time slots are available?

My availability changes periodically and is different for every day depending on my current students’ schedules. In general I am available:
• Monday to Thursday: 9am – 8pm CET
• Friday: 9am – 6pm CET
• Saturday: 9am – 2pm CET
Check my Google Calendar for up to date availability: https:/\/calendar.app.google/EMRmdj9Vb6LhaS4a9

I am in a different time zone. How do I know when my lesson is?

I use worldtimebuddy.com to make sure I always turn up for you at the correct time. Once we agree on an appointment, I’ll send you a Google Calendar invite — you’ll receive a reminder and won’t miss the lesson.

How do I keep track of my paid lessons?

Each student gets their own Google Spreadsheet to keep track of payments and lesson dates. This will be shared with you. If you reschedule a previously agreed lesson, no fee will be deducted until the class is held.

What if I am not available on a previously agreed time for a lesson?

Please let me know as soon as possible, and we will reschedule. I am flexible with cancellations. However, if you don’t show up without notice and I’m waiting in front of the computer, I will charge you for the lesson.

How many lessons a week should I take?

We will decide that together based on your goals, spare time and budget.

Is private tutoring better than a class?

Both have their pros and cons. Private tutoring is more expensive, but 100% of the time is focused on you. I tailor each lesson to your individual needs — something that’s not possible in a group setting. Group classes are cheaper and have a social element, but some students (especially shy ones) may get left out. In my private lessons, I’ll encourage you to speak more and grow your confidence. You can always try both and see what works best for you. If you can afford it, combining the two is ideal!

Can I learn with someone at the same time?

Absolutely. I’ve had people study in pairs before. If this interests you, ask for a special quote — I offer good discounts for shared lessons. Just keep in mind that both of you will need to sync your availability and agree on a shared learning pace.

Do you have a special teaching style?

You might see teachers advertising miracle methods that promise fluent Hungarian in a few weeks — I don’t do that. What I offer is complete flexibility and dedication to finding the best method that suits you. I’ve been teaching since 2013 and have worked with students of all kinds. I’ve built a large toolkit and create new materials regularly, tailored to my students' needs.

Do you teach children or adults only?

The youngest student I taught was 7 years of age and based on my experience, this is my lower limit. I recommend in-person learning for very young children.

Can I be present on my child’s lesson?

Yes — in fact, I recommend that you attend at least the first session. After that, it’s up to you. Some children need a parent present to feel comfortable; others may participate more actively without them. You know your child best!

Can I pay by PayPal?

Yes, but please note that PayPal fees will be added to the lesson price, as it’s not free for me to receive payments.

Can I pay by bank transfer?

Yes — and from most countries, it's free for me to receive bank transfers.

Can I pay by card?

No. Unfortunately card payments are not available at the moment.

What currencies can I use to pay?

I generally suggest GBP, EUR or HUF payments, but I can arrange for other currencies — please enquire at the time of the quote request!

Can I get a discount?

Yes! If you purchase multiple lessons in advance, I offer discounts — just ask for a quote. I also run occasional special promotions for new students. You can also receive a group discount if you team up with one or more people to take lessons together.

What if I change my mind? Do you do refunds?

Yes, of course. I understand that life happens — goals change, plans shift, or maybe you’ve found a better fit. No hard feelings. Let me know, and I’ll refund any unused lessons you’ve paid for in advance.

How can I support you if I like your teaching style or personality?

Leave a review! It doesn’t cost anything, but it helps me a lot. There are many unreliable teachers out there, and positive feedback goes a long way in helping others find a teacher they can trust. If you’ve enjoyed working with me, let others know they’re in good hands. Thank you! ❤
